Bio
Bio insecticides and fungicides are ideal for preventing and getting rid of infestations in cannabis plants; they’re safer and healthier than chemical products, and they’re also more eco-friendly. Another benefit is the fact that most of them can be used during the flowering period thanks to their short safety period.
They tend to be made using organic or essential oil extracts which act via contact, ingestion or by directly affecting the insect’s nervous system.
How to Use Bio Insecticides and Fungicides
These products can be used until about a week before harvesting. In fact, some of these products don’t even have a safety period, although if you plan on spraying buds that you’re going to consume, we recommend leaving at least a week before harvesting just in case their flavour is altered.
Most bio insecticides need to be used every 3 – 5 days for a few weeks, depending on the intensity of the infestation, because they don’t tend to get rid of larvae. An exception to this rule is Spruzit, which is capable of killing both eggs and larvae.
Also, contact with sun and wind can degrade most bio pesticides, so you’ll need to be constant and apply them correctly in no wind, low light situations.
Types of Bio Insecticides and Fungicides
There are various types of products that can be used to prevent and get rid of insect infestations in cannabis plants; some of them are systemic, whereas others work via ingestion. At La Huerta Grow Shop you can find the most efficient organic and bio insecticides and fungicides.
There are certain types of active ingredients and beneficial bacteria that tend to be present in these types of products in order to obtain the best results.
Pyrethrin
Pyrethrin is a type of natural pesticide extracted from dried chrysanthemum flowers (Chrysantemum Cinerariefolium). It acts via contact, attacking the insects’ nervous system. This type of insecticide is multipurpose, so it works for various types of insects: white flies, thrips, spider mites, etc.
At La Huerta Grow Shop you can find many different products made using pyrethrin such as Spruzit by Neudorff.
Neem Oil
Neem Oil is extracted from a tree known as the neem tree or Indian Lilac. This is one of the most used fungicides and insecticides when it comes to organic cannabis growing. It acts systemically, which means that it gets into the plant and is distributed around it.
A good example of a product made using neem is Bio Neem by Prot-Eco, which can protect your plants from insects and fungi via spraying and watering.
Trichoderma
Trichoderma is a beneficial fungi that can help to protect insect infestations in your plants’ roots. It can also be used to prevent fusarium, pythium, sclerotium and more types of fungi and mold. It also stimulates root growth, which helps to keep your plants strong and healthy.
Aktrivator by Canna is a root stimulant and preventive product used in soil which contains Trichoderma harzanium, which also contains clay which can be used to keep the pH and EC levels in your substrate stable. Another example of a product high in Trichoderma is Bio 16 Trifag by Prot-Eco, which is used via watering.
