Fluorescent lighting is the best type for saplings and clones. You can use this type of lighting in grow tents up to 100x100 cm in size. For larger tents you’re better off using a HPS, LEC or LED lighting system.

What Fluorescent Light to Pick

There are two different types of fluorescent lighting that you can use.

Compact Fluorescent Tubes and CFL lighting (Compact Fluorescent Light).

Grow lights designed for specific phases will need to be switched out when your plants change from the growth to the bloom period.

CFL

• Can use HPS and MH reflectors.
• More fragile than the tubes.

• Available in 125w, 150w, 200w and 250w.

Fluorescent Tubes

• They use special panel-like reflectors.
• Sturdier than CFL lighting.
• You need more tubes than CFL bulbs.
• They’re cheaper.
• Available in 55w kits.

What Fluorescent Light Should I Use in My Grow Tent?

Based on your grow tent:

• 60x60 cm - a 2x55W system or 125W-150W CFL.
• 80x80 cm - a 4x55W system or 200W-250W CFL.
• 100x100 cm - a 4x55W system or 250W CFL.
