In the following post, we’re going to go over the simplest, fastest and most detailed and easiest way to make your own hash without needing to spend much money.
The hash you can buy on the street often contains products that alter it, reducing the quality, or may even be too expensive, or simply too awkward to get. That’s why we recommend making your own hash extracts in order to avoid issues, enjoy high quality, and save money.
How to Make Easy Hash
There are many different ways to extract the most interesting compounds from cannabis (THC, CBG, Terpenes). The oldest and easiest method, as well as the one that offers the best results, is dry extraction; this means using dried buds without any type of solvent.
What do I need to make hash?
In this post we’ll explain the simplest, fastest and most affordable way to extract hash; dry extraction using an extractor with a pollen catcher.
Traditional hash is obtained via a simple process; the buds and flowers are shaken so the trichomes fall off and are filtered through a mesh.
In order to make your own hash, you can start using flowers or leftover trimmings (leaves with resin and small buds). Flowers obviously produce more hash than trimmings, but the quality should be more or less the same; trimmings can produce high quality extracts.
Not all strains work the same way nor do they produce the same results. You’ll notice that some strains produce larger yields and others produce smaller yields. You’ll also notice a difference in quality depending on how the plants were grown. For example, cannabis grown using organic fertilizers has a higher aromatic quality than those grown using mineral products.
Plus, environmental factors such as temperature and humidity can also influence the colour, aroma and aspect of your hash, as well as its overall quality.
We recommend freezing your buds and leftover trimmings before using them to make extracts; this is done to conserve cannabinoids and terpenes, as well as improve yield (trichomes fall off easily under low temperatures).
To summarize, in order to make your own hash using dry extraction methods, you’ll need:
- Buds or leftover trimmings.
- Extractor. In as far as price/quality, we recommend the Polenmaker. If you’re on a budget, try out the Shake Me. If you have a large amount of flowers or trimmings (from example, from outdoor plants), we recommend using extractors such as Secret Box, Pollinator, or the Pollinator 3000.
- We recommend using a freezer for storing your buds before the extraction. Sealed containers, antiodor baggies or vacuum packed bags can be used to seal them in your freezer.
How to make Hash using a Dry Extractor, Step by Step
Before, we were saying how easy it is to make your own hash. Let’s see what steps you have to follow.
1. Freeze your buds or trimmings for at least 24 hours (we recommend doing it for 48 hours for the best possible results). You can freeze your buds in your extractor, which can save time when making your extract.
Keep in mind that you’ll need to make the most of the frozen material and act fast, optimizing your time as much as possible.
2. Shake your hash extractor up and down energetically, with the mesh on the lower end so that the material can release all trichomes, which fall and filter down through the mesh and are caught in the lower container.
You can shake it for as long as you look, but keep in mind that:
– The longer you shake for, the more hash you’ll get, but the more plant material may come apart and end up ruining the quality of your hash.
– The less time you shake for, the less hash you’ll obtain but it will be higher in quality.
According to our experience, it takes about 30 seconds for trichomes to begin falling, and around 60 – 90 seconds should be enough for decent quantity and quality.
3. Open the lower compartment and recover the trichomes that have fallen down.
Once you have your hash you can keep it exactly as is, compact it into a puck, or press it to make rosin, filter it again to get rid of any impurities and more. However, regardless of what you decide to do at the end of this process you’ll have hash ready to consume.
If your cannabis doesn’t have much of an aroma, the hash obtained will probably be similar. You can always use botanic terpenes in order to enrich your extracts’ aromas.
